Yesterday, Michigan football destroyed Nebraska on the road, improving to 5-0 on the year heading into Week 6’s matchup against Minnesota. Seeing as the Georgia Bulldogs, the current No. 1 team in the nation, have seen their struggles so far, Jim Harbaugh and Michigan are now earning plenty of attention for the top spot nationally in Sunday’s newest AP Poll.

This afternoon, a new AP poll was dropped, and 12 voters have pinned Michigan football as the No. 1 team in the nation. Georgia remains atop the standings for the time being, but it is clear that the Wolverines’ 45-7 victory over Nebraska yesterday has heads turning on a national scale.

Michigan football began the year at No. 2 nationally, a rank that the Maize and Blue still hold heading into Minnesota; however, the number of No. 1 votes that Michigan is getting has been steadily on the rise. After earning only two first-place votes last weekend, ten more voters think Michigan is the No. 1 team nationally right now.

Adam Zucker, Adam Cole, Amie Just, Colton Bartholomew, David Briggs, Don Williams, Emily Leiker, Kirk Kenny, Mark Weiszer, Robert Cessna, Rya Thronburn, and Tom Murphy are the 12 AP poll voters that have Michigan football at No. 1 following this weekend’s slate of Week 5 matchups.

It’s also worth noting that Michigan football is ranked 6th by three voters and 7th by two voters — these five are the latest ballots for the Maize and Blue right now.
