This weekend, with wide receivers like Peyton O’Leary and Tyler Morris banged up heading into the season opener, fans could see a Michigan football freshman trio stand out. With QB coach Kirk Campbell calling the plays, it looks like junior quarterback JJ McCarthy is going to get to sling it around a good bit more this weekend; with limited receiver depth, that could indicate that rising stars like Semaj Morgan, Fredrick Moore, and Karmello English are going to get a chance to shine.

Michigan football freshman trio could shine this weekend

Since fall camp started, many coaches and players have been high on the Michigan football freshman wide receivers — more specifically, Karmello English, Fredrick Moore, and Semaj Morgan have been standing out among their peers.

Michigan football is a bit limited when it comes to wide receiver depth right now — a consequence of fall camp injuries — though Roman Wilson and Cornelius Johnson will still be game-ready. That said, there are a few freshmen who may get a chance to break out against East Carolina.

“They’re just a very advanced group of guys. They’re very good,” Roman Wilson said of these Michigan football freshman wide receivers. “And I think in a couple of years, they’re gonna be those dudes. I really like them. I’m really confident, and the sky’s the limit for them. They’re very good.”

Seeing as these three are freshmen, are they absorbing information fast?

“Yeah, they actually do (pick up on the offense fast). They actually pick up information really well and translate it and pick it up really fast.”

This weekend, among the opening weekend fanfare and Jim Harbaugh storylines, make sure to keep an eye on this Michigan football freshman trio as the Wolverines look to start the season 1-0 for the fifth season in a row.
