This weekend (vs. East Carolina) will mark the start of the Wolverines’ 2023 season and will be the first week of a three-game Jim Harbaugh suspension, which was self-imposed by the University of Michigan in hopes of deterring the NCAA from punishing Harbaugh further down the line. On Monday, Michigan football senior running back Kalel Mullings shared a few thoughts on how the Wolverines are taking the news.

Michigan football senior gives thoughts on Jim Harbaugh suspension

Kalel Mullings, a Michigan football senior running back (who was previously a linebacker), spoke with the media on Monday. With the Wolverines’ non-conference schedule just a few days from beginning and Jim Harbaugh suspended, there is a lot going on in Ann Arbor right now.

“It’s definitely an unusual circumstance and unfortunate,” Kalel Mullings said on Monday. “But for us, the biggest thing is, in order to reach all of the goals that we want to reach, we have to win every single game, every single week. And in order to do that, we have to take each game week by week, play by play, game by game.

“So the biggest thing in order to do that and reach our goals is just trying to make this unusual situation feel as normal as possible, and just try to not let the outside noise affect what we’re doing here inside this building because at the end of the day, we’re here for each other. We want to win and complete our goals for each other. So all of the stuff that’s happening outside of the building are things from people outside of the building that are affecting people inside the building. We just kind of want to leave that to the side and focus on winning games. So just treating it as normal as possible.”

East Carolina at Michigan could have some growing pains for the Wolverines

This weekend, facing East Carolina, Michigan football will be without Jim Harbaugh (head coach, 9th season) and Sherrone Moore (offensive coordinator, first full-time season). With these suspensions, along with a few injuries, it is reasonable to expect some growing pains from the Maize and Blue as they aim to shake off the rust and start the 2023 season with a bang.
