Last weekend, both head coach Jim Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore were suspended for the Wolverines’ season opener against ECU. Michigan football downed the Pirates, 30-3, though it was clear that the Wolverines were missing the presence of these two key coaches. While Harbaugh is still out until Week 4 due to suspension, Moore is making his return this week, giving the Maize and Blue a key piece back for their matchup against UNLV on Saturday.

Michigan football is getting Sherrone Moore back this weekend

Last weekend, the Michigan football offense looked pretty good until the starters were taken out in the third quarter of the Wolverines’ win over East Carolina. That said, there seemed to be something missing — the offensive line didn’t look like its usual self, the run game was pretty quiet, and there were some sloppy mistakes down the stretch. This weekend, Sherrone Moore is back on the sideline, meaning the Wolverines are getting a key asset back.

With quarterback JJ McCarthy playing at a high level right now, it was clear that Kirk Campbell and the passing attack were heating up quite a bit last weekend — JJ went 26 for 30, totaling 280 yards and three touchdowns all said and done. Still, Michigan football needs more from its offense down the stretch; scoring 30 on East Carolina is only acceptable in Week 1 with no offensive coordinator.

Now, with UNLV coming to town and a game of experience under everyone’s belt, it looks like Sherrone Moore is ready to get Michigan football humming on offense again. Ideally, the run game heats up again this weekend, the O-line issues are worked through before the game, and JJ McCarthy continues to dazzle the nation en route to a 2-0 start.
