Now that Michigan football has survived the spring transfer portal window with relatively few departures, the Wolverines can focus on adding talent and supplementing their roster.

Michigan football was able to do that prior to the 2023 season with guys like Drake Nugent, Josh Wallace, Josaiah Stewart, AJ Barner, and others. The Wolverines could use some reinforcements at key positions such as wide receiver, cornerback, offensive line, defensive line, and linebacker.

You can truly never have enough depth. Team 144 taught us that lesson. Michigan football has plenty of high-end talent. The Wolverines could have as many as four first-round picks next season. If Donovan Edwards realizes his true potential, it could be even higher.

However, the spring game showed some areas of concern. Cornerback was already a worry before DJ Waller left and with just five scholarship receivers, that’s a weakness too.

We found out that Amorion Walker could be coming back to Michigan. Ole Miss tried hard to keep him according to Sam Webb, but Walker is in the portal and the Wolverines should be the destination. But, according to a new crystal ball from Webb, he won’t be the only wide receiver joining the roster from the portal.

C.J. Charleston, a former Youngstown State wideout, who caught 33 passes for 503 yards and four touchdowns last season, was offered recently by U-M. There is a connection to the coaching staff and Webb has now projected the Wolverines to land Charleston, a 6-foot pass catcher from Ohio.

Charleston only had 20 receptions in his career prior to last season. He’s a graduate transfer so he would have one season left. It wouldn’t shake up the depth chart long-term and it could be a Daylen Baldwin-type addition where he doesn’t end up playing that much.

There are other options in the portal too, but if the coaches like Charleston and Walker, the Wolverines could do a lot worse.
