This weekend, for the first time since the 2014 college football season, someone not named Jim Harbaugh will be leading the Wolverines into battle. That someone will be Week 1 Michigan football interim coach Jesse Minter, who will be acting as head coach against East Carolina on September 2nd (five days away). Just now, Minter had a chance to address the media, where he explained that ECU must be taken seriously, even calling the Pirates a “Giant Killer.”

Jesse Minter ready for role as Michigan football interim coach with Jim Harbaugh suspended

First off, this is a huge new role for the Week 1 Michigan football interim coach, Jesse Minter, who is heading into his second season with the Wolverines. Minter was asked to address his Week 1 role and its expectations this afternoon.

“Yeah, I mean, I think I feel (the expectations) every week regardless of this position, or if I’m just calling defense,” Jesse Minter said. “I think there’s — nobody has higher (internal) expectations than what our team has, what our coaches have, what I have for — not only our defense but our team. And so we live those expectations every day. We want to we want to be the best. And so certainly, yeah, I think I think any game is (a big game) with what we’re trying to accomplish. Every game is the biggest game — we talked about our season goals, and one of them is just to win the next game, and that will keep us on track for what we want to do.”

Minter calls East Carolina a “giant killer”

Over the years, East Carolina has pulled off a few upsets — something that Michigan football interim coach Jesse Minter is quite aware of heading into his first game as the head coach in Ann Arbor.

“We have got a ton of respect for East Carolina,” Week 1 Michigan football interim coach Jesse Minter continued. “First and foremost, they’ve been a giant killer over the years — you look at their history. Fortunately for me, this is a team — my dad was a head coach at Cincinnati. As I was growing up, they were Conference USA team. I’ve seen this team for a long time and sort of just what they’re capable of doing with the type of athletes that they’re going to bring up here.

“So, so much respect for Mike Houston (East Carolina head coach), their entire staff, and we definitely better be at our best to accomplish what we want to accomplish on Saturday.”

East Carolina is a “giant killer,” but it appears that Jesse Minter and Michigan football are up to the challenge despite Jim Harbaugh being suspended for this weekend’s game.
