The Michigan football investigation into alleged illegal sign stealing has the nation on fire right now. When the news initially broke last week, comments made by Rutgers’ head coach Greg Schiano at halftime of his team’s 31-7 loss in Ann Arbor were taken out of context. Heading into Week 9, he clarified what he meant — it’s clear that his words were taken out of context to push an agenda.

Heading into halftime against Rutgers, Michigan football led the Scarlet Knights 14-7; in the second half, the Wolverines would break things wide open, leaving with a 31-7 (24 point) win all said and done. Still, after two quarters, Schiano was frustrated.

“Well, there’s some stuff going on out there,” Schiano told the sideline reporter. “So we just got to slow it down a little bit. There are some things going on that aren’t right as well. So we’ll talk about how to handle it.”

Rutgers coach Greg Schiano adds context

When news of an NCAA-led investigation into the Michigan football program broke, these comments from Schiano were quickly cited as evidence against the Wolverines in the court of public opinion.

After his win over the Indiana Hoosiers yesterday, the Rutgers head coach had a chance to clarify what he meant — it’s clear that his words were used for an agenda, but they were not directed at Michigan football.

“That comment at half was strictly about my frustration with things that had gone on at half with officiating,” Greg Schiano explained when asked about his words and their connection to Michigan football. “It had nothing to do with (anything else). I kept saying, ‘How did I get dragged into this?’ But let’s focus on today and today’s win.”

So, yet again, there are allegations with no evidence against Michigan football — for the time being, at least.
