It would take an absolute miracle for the No. 6 Ohio State Buckeyes (11-1, 8-1 Big Ten) to somehow appear in the College Football Playoff this fall, though next year, the Wolverines and Buckeyes seeing one another two or three times per season could become a new norm with the loss of Big Ten divisions and the expansion of the CFP. In the days leading up to Michigan’s bout against No. 16 Iowa in the Conference Championship game this weekend, transfer tight end AJ Barner explained that No. 2 Michigan football (12-0, 9-0) is down to see the Buckeyes again if pitted against one another.
Michigan football is “always down” to play Ohio State — in College Football Playoff or otherwise
If all stays the same by this time next year, Michigan football and Ohio State will be prepping to face one another for the second weekend in a row in a matchup for the Big Ten title. Still, both teams would likely get CFP spots, meaning a third matchup in the same season could be in order throughout the years to come.
From AJ Barner:
For AJ Barner, that is not an issue; in fact, after Michigan’s 30-24 win over Ohio State last weekend at the Big House, Barner explained that he and the Wolverines are down to face the Buckeyes whenever.
“For sure, yeah. I think all the guys (at Michigan) — after the game, if Ohio State wanted to run it back in the backyard, we would be down for it,” Michigan football transfer AJ Barner said this week. “Any time we get to play (Ohio State) — we’re always down for it.”
Again, it’s incredibly unlikely that Michigan football and Ohio State face off again until next November, though on the off-chance that it happens, it’s clear that Barner and his Wolverines will be ready for another rematch with the Buckeyes.
