In nine days, East Carolina will serve as the Wolverines’ home opener, though the Michigan sideline will look a bit different for the first few games. Earlier this week, the University of Michigan announced that head coach Jim Harbaugh, who is heading into his 9th year in Ann Arbor, will be suspended for three games of the coming 2023 season. Today, Michigan football captain Kris Jenkins took to the podium and shared his thoughts — it is clear that Jenkins and the Wolverines are looking to prove a point with Harbaugh suspended for the first three weeks.

Michigan football is nine days from kicking off the 2023 season at Michigan Stadium against East Carolina. With Jim Harbaugh suspended, newly appointed team captain Kris Jenkins made it clear that the Wolverines are looking to make a splash and make Jim Harbaugh in Week 1 against ECU.

“We’ve been talking about it, and you know it’s an unfortunate circumstance that we’re in, but we want to, for him, play as the best team possible that he’s made us to be,” Kris Jenkins said this afternoon. “He’s definitely been putting us in the best position to do that. So basically, our biggest thing as a tribute to him is being able to play and be the team that he’s worked so hard to make us be.

“Our biggest goal is, when he’s watching the game, we want to show him that this is the type of team he made,” Jenkins said. “We’re looking forward to the opportunity.”

The Wolverines will be without Jim Harbaugh for games against East Carolina, Bowling Green, and UNLV before getting him back for the team’s Big Ten conference opener against Rutgers in Week 4. While these teams should be no issue regardless of Harbaugh’s suspension, look for the Wolverines to come into ‘The Big House’ with a purpose on September 2nd.
