Two weeks ago, for the Wolverines’ season opener against East Carolina, Michigan football offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore was suspended for one game. He was suspended by the University of Michigan in hopes of appeasing the NCAA — which it did. Now, heading into Week 3 against Bowling Green, Moore will be the Wolverines’ acting head coach in place of Jim Harbaugh, who remains suspended until next weekend. Yesterday, he addressed the media — here is some of what the second-year OC had to say.

Sherrone Moore gives thoughts on his one-game suspension

Over the offseason, Sherrone Moore was named full-time offensive coordinator for Michigan football. That said, his congratulations were delayed a weekend due to a university-imposed one-game suspension, which forced Moore to miss the ECU game. Yesterday, he was asked about his feelings on the matter and his thoughts on being a head coach this weekend.

“Regarding the first thing (his one-game suspension against East Carolina), it was a learning lesson,” Sherrone Moore said on Monday afternoon. “And that’s really all I’ll comment on about that. But as far as the opportunity from coach (to be this weekend’s interim head coach), it’s an honor to represent this university, to represent these players. And it’s really not about me, it’s really about the players. That’s all it’s really about. So I just want to have a chance to just make sure we’re doing everything right on game day. But it’s not about me, it never will be about me, not about coach (Jim Harbaugh) even. He’ll say it’s about our players and this university.”

While Bowling Green is not the best opponent Michigan football will face this year — in fact, they are not even a Power 5 school — Sherrone Moore still knows that the Wolverines need to come ready to play. This weekend is Michigan’s final “tune-up” game before Big Ten plays starts next weekend, and as we have seen countless times around the nation, upsets are quite frequent in college football.

“Good football team, man,” Sherrone Moore said when asked about his thoughts on the Bowling Green State Falcons, who are Michigan’s Week 3 opponent. “They’re well-coached. You can tell scheme-wise they do a couple of different things, a multitude of different things. And coverage-wise, they changed up a little bit from what they’ve done last year, but pretty consistent from what they’ve done with the new play-caller. Obviously, a Michigan guy that’s been here with Coach Morrison. So, excited for the opportunity on Saturday. A lot of good players, they fly around, they play fast, they play physical, so it’ll be a great challenge for us.”

Sherrone Moore and Michigan football will hit the field against Bowling Green this weekend at 7:30 for the Wolverines’ first night game of the 2023 season. Ideally, the Maize and Blue take home a third-straight victory, marching into Week 4 against Rutgers unscathed.
