This summer, a new Michigan football transfer addition was officially signed to the 2023 roster: LaDarius Henderson. After spending a few years in the PAC-12 with Arizona State, where he made a strong impression and played a key role in one of the nation’s top pass-blocking units, Henderson is now ready for a new challenge as a member of Michigan’s esteemed offensive line.

With high expectations for the 2023 season, the Michigan football offensive line is facing significant pressure to perform. Having been recently named to the ‘All-Transfer Portal‘ team, LaDarius Henderson has already garnered national attention. Currently, this promising newcomer is actively competing for a starting role as a tackle with the Maize and Blue.

Michigan football transfer addition may find starting role as a standout tackle

This year, the Michigan football offensive line is getting a lot of its top talent back, including Trevor Keegan and Zak Zinter. However, the Wolverines still have some work to do at both tackle positions, and they have already filled the void at center with the addition of Drake Nugent.

LaDarius Henderson, a former Arizona State Sun Devil standout, is expected to be a major contributor and a crucial factor in the Wolverines’ offensive line success this fall. Currently, a few players are vying for the starting role at left tackle, where they will be responsible for protecting JJ McCarthy’s blindside. Nevertheless, Henderson seems to be the frontrunner at the moment.

“I did have a good amount of options once I entered the transfer portal but once I knew I had an opportunity to play at Michigan, I wanted to take it.” Henderson told Blue by Ninety earlier this year.  “I love what they do here, from Coach Herbert’s strength staff, to Coach Sherrone Moore’s O-line, to even the play calling. It was a no-brainier for me to go to ‘O-line U.’”

Even if Henderson is beaten out for the left tackle job, there is a great chance that he takes over at right tackle. Regardless, like a few other new signees, this new Michigan football transfer portal addition appears to be primed to make a run at a starting job in 2023. Jim Harbaugh hit the transfer portal hard throughout the year, and right now, his newfound depth appears to be paying great dividends.
