ANN ARBOR, Mich. — JJ McCarthy is heading into his second season as the leader for the Michigan football offense. In his first year, he performed admirably, leading the Maize and Blue to a Big Ten Championship, a College Football Playoff berth, and dominating victories over Penn State, Michigan State, and Ohio State. Now, much more is expected of McCarthy, with hopes that he will lead the Wolverines to a national championship in 2023.

According to head coach Jim Harbaugh, JJ McCarthy is showing significant progress as they approach the Wolverines’ fall opener on September 2nd. The Michigan football offense is striving for greater balance this season, aiming to claim the program’s first national title in decades. McCarthy’s development into the best possible quarterback will be a crucial step in achieving this ambitious goal.

“The one he’s got is the willingness to do anything for anybody on the team,” Jim Harbaugh said of JJ McCarthy, per The Wolverine. “I look at the great quarterbacks like Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes. I’m not with them every day. But you can just tell just looking at how they play the game? And what they say, especially about their teammates? There’s a willingness there to do (anything). And that’s the secret sauce in a quarterback.”

Michigan football got its first look at JJ McCarthy in 2023 back in April during the Wolverines’ spring game, which concluded a successful period of spring practice in Ann Arbor.

“He had a great spring, he had a tremendous spring,” Harbaugh said of McCarthy’s spring performance “I think that everything he does? I mean he truly epitomizes a better day than yesterday, a better tomorrow than today more than anybody I’ve ever been around. It’s going good, going good. He had a magnificent spring.”

Keep an eye on No. 9, Michigan fans, because he has the potential to be one of the best to ever wear the Maize and Blue.
