The top headline in college football right now is Jim Harbaugh, the head coach of the Wolverines, who is reportedly facing a four-game suspension from the NCAA over alleged recruiting violations from a few years ago. In addition, a few other coaches are facing suspension, including Michigan football offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore, who is likely to miss one game this fall.

Michigan football is under fire from the NCAA right now as they work out suspensions for some of the Wolverines’ coaches. While this should not have a profound impact on Michigan’s season (the first four games are against ECU, Bowling Green, UNLV, and Rutgers), the publicity from all of this is not ideal.

In addition to head coach Jim Harbaugh, who is likely facing a four-game suspension for recruiting violations, Michigan football offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore is also reportedly facing a one-game suspension. Moore, who is stepping into the full-time play-calling role for the first time with the Wolverines, has been instrumental in turning the program around in 2021 and will likely be a top candidate for many teams’ head coaching vacancies in the years to come.

While Sherrone Moore will likely miss Michigan’s Week 1 ‘Maize Out’ game against East Carolina, the Wolverines are expected to have him back by Week 2, with a chance of Moore taking over as interim head coach until Jim Harbaugh returns for the Wolverines’ Week 5 matchup against Nebraska.

None of this is ideal for Michigan football, but the Maize and Blue will find a way to prevail and must continue to be focused on the program’s ultimate goal — the 2023-24 national championship.

Additionally, it’s worth noting that these suspensions are expected to happen, but are yet to be made official by the NCAA, which may be something to keep an eye on for Michigan football fans as fall camp approaches.
