Over the past three seasons, the Wolverines are 40-3 overall with three Big Ten titles, three CFP berths, a Rose Bowl win, and a National Championship Game victory — impressive feats, to say the least. Heading into the 2024 season, however, Michigan football is not projected to do nearly as well as what we saw last season; in fact, FanDuel has the Wolverines as underdogs in a few opening spreads: against Texas and Ohio State.

Michigan football an underdog in two games heading into the 2024 season

Michigan football went 15-0 in 2023-24, winning the Rose Bowl, a national title, and more during one of the best seasons in school history. With JJ McCarthy, Blake Corum, Kris Jenkins, Mike Sainristil, and so many others heading to the NFL, there are many question marks for the Wolverines heading into next season. In fact, the future of the program seemingly hangs in the balance with Jim Harbaugh interviewing for coaching roles in the NFL right now.

Texas, Ohio State favored to beat the Wolverines per FanDuel

Despite Michigan’s impressive 2023 season, the Wolverines are currently underdogs in a few opening betting spreads, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Against Texas (September 7th), Michigan is currently a 2.5-point underdog; against Ohio State (November 30th), the Buckeyes are favored by 6.5 points.

Of course, Michigan football has not faced Texas in quite some time, though the Wolverines have downed Ohio State three times in a row, including two times when the Buckeyes were favored by a notable amount. Most recently, Michigan defeated Ohio State 30-24 in a thriller back in November, which capped off a second-straight 12-0 regular season for the Maize and Blue.

We’ll see how these lines move throughout the offseason, though for the time being, Michigan football is projected to drop a few games during the 2024 season.
