Today, during pregame warmups against East Carolina at the Big House ahead of the 2023 season opener, Michigan football players donned “Free Harbaugh” shirts in support of their head coach. Jim Harbaugh, who was suspended by the University of Michigan for three games of the 2023 season in hopes of appeasing the NCAA, will not be the Wolverines’ sideline head coach for the first time since before he was hired back in late 2014.

While Jim Harbaugh has yet to fully address his suspension, he has made it clear that he is unhappy with the decision. Harbaugh described it as a feeling like a “baseball bat to the kneecaps” when asked about his thoughts on the suspension during fall camp; however, due to the nature of the ongoing investigation and unresolved issues with the NCAA, not much more has been said.
Throughout fall camp, Michigan football players have been insisting that the Jim Harbaugh suspension is not impacting them on the field. While this may still be the case, it’s clear that the suspension is on everyone’s mind as the Wolverines look to knock off East Carolina today and begin the 2023 season 1-0.
