Tuesday afternoon, Sam Webb of 247Sports reported that Michigan football is pursuing a massive transfer target. The Wolverines are currently locked onto rising sophomore Davison Igbinosun from Ole Miss (GBM Wolverine).
Davison Igbinosun at Ole Miss
Igbinosun earned Freshman All-America honors for his performance in 2022 — he appeared in all 13 of the Rebels’ games last season making 10 starts at cornerback. Igbinosun stands at 6-2 and weighs in around 185 lbs — with his size and frame (especially as a rising sophomore) Igbinosun would be a huge get for Michigan football.
According to the 247 rankings, Igbinosun was the No. 162 overall player, the No. 21 corner, and the No. 1 player in New Jersey in the class of 2022. Igbinosun committed to Ole Miss in January of last year, and just one year later, is looking to find a new home.
Igbinoson made 20 tackles and recorded five pass-breakups throughout 2022.
Michigan football could use Igbinoson
As things stand right now, the Wolverines could use a bit of help in the defensive backfield. Michigan football is losing two of its top corners to the 2023 NFL Draft — Gemon Green and DJ Turner — and despite having some in-house talent, Igbinosun would make Michigan’s DB room much better.
If Michigan football’s depth chart is looking weak at any position — which frankly, it isn’t right now — it would be at cornerback. So far, Michigan football has landed a plethora of transfer stars — seven in total, all but one being a four-star — and if all goes well, could add an eighth this week.
