PASADENA — Since taking over as a starter, Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy has made a splash for the Wolverines. Just a couple of weeks ago, McCarthy was a Heisman frontrunner who was rising up Michigan leaderboards in multiple passing categories. Recently, Jim Harbaugh explained how McCarthy has changed in his junior year and how the quarterback evolved into such an elite player heading into this year’s Rose Bowl.

Even though McCarthy hasn’t been asked to throw the ball very much in his past couple of games, the junior quarterback is still playing football at an elite level. Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh recently elaborated on McCarthy’s growth in his junior year.

“Change? Grow would be the better word. Just phenomenal in everything that he does,” the 9th-year Michigan football coach explained. “I would call it growth. He’s just better each day. I see him better today than he was yesterday, better tomorrow than he was today. It’s just that’s his mindset. It’s fun to be around. It’s infectious. Rubs off on everybody, including us coaches and me. We’d follow him anywhere. He’s like the kid in the candy store, whether we’re in a meeting, at practice. It’s just infectious in every way.”

Jim Harbaugh has full confidence in his quarterback heading into the Rose Bowl tomorrow, which is one of the most important games of Harbaugh’s career as a coach.

“His play has been outstanding,” Harbaugh added. “He is really locked in for this game.” JJ McCarthy and the rest of the Wolverines will put their skills to the test tomorrow against Alabama at 5 PM EST.
