Michigan football reportedly offered massive 10-year deal to Jim Harbaugh

Every year, Michigan football fans go through the same cycle surrounding Jim Harbaugh. As with every season, NFL rumors have begun to swirl around Jim Harbaugh as the Wolverines prepare for their upcoming College Football Playoff game in this year’s Rose Bowl. Amidst these rumors though, Michigan football is reportedly trying to lock in their head coach with a massive 10-year contract which would make Harbaugh one of the highest-paid coaches in college football.

Michigan football offered Jim Harbaugh 10-year $125 million contract, per reports

Michigan football has yet to secure Harbaugh for a contract extension, though it has not been from a lack of trying. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Michigan’s most recent offer to Jim Harbaugh was a massive 10-year $125 million contract that would solidify Harbaugh as Michigan’s long-term head coach.

Earlier reports this year showed that contract talks between Harbaugh and Michigan got very close but had one major holdup: Michigan doesn’t want Harbaugh flirting with the NFL this year.

Per Rapoport, this latest contract would include a clause stating that Harbaugh cannot accept an NFL coaching position for the 2024 season, and while the clause only covers one year, it is evidently enough to delay the negotiation process.

In addition, Harbaugh is busy preparing to face one of the top teams in the country and has every right to put negotiations on hold for right now. Michigan football is currently preparing for its biggest test of the season with a College Football Playoff matchup against Alabama set to kickoff this New Year’s Day at 5 PM EST.
