When Darrius Clemons committed to the Wolverines in Jim Harbaugh’s 2022 recruiting class, he was one of the higher-ranked players in the class. That said, he saw sporadic action as a freshman last fall. However, Clemons has been impressing coaches and fans alike throughout the offseason, indicating that he may be headed for a breakout year, which could significantly boost the Michigan football offense once again.
Michigan football sophomore wide receiver appears poised for a breakout season
During the previous fall, Darrius Clemons, a sophomore wide receiver for Michigan football, managed to catch a single pass for a seven-yard gain. Although his performance in his first year with the Maize and Blue didn’t turn many heads, he is undeniably one of the most talented players in his class and appears ready to take on a more prominent role in the upcoming season.
“He’s a pretty strong guy,” Roman Wilson said of Michigan football sophomore wide receiver Darrius Clemons. “I think he’s going to shock a lot of people when he gets his opportunities this year.”
While Darrius Clemons may not have had a profound impact during his true freshman season, it is evident that he greatly valued the experience and learning curve he went through during his time in Ann Arbor. Now, as Michigan football looks ahead to the upcoming season, the team needs Clemons to capitalize on that experience and step into a bigger role to make a significant impact on the field.
“Obviously, it’s frustrating not playing football,” Clemons said. “I’m competitive — it’s what I came here to do. But at the same time it’s keeping my mind on trying to control what you can control, to try to get better every day. Learn from the older guys. We had Ronnie Bell, Cornelius Johnson, Roman Wilson. Those guys are all going to play in the NFL one day. I’d be a fool not to try to take something from that.”
Darrius Clemons seeking greatness with the Maize and Blue
One thing that has become abundantly clear about Darrius Clemons is his strong determination to improve and contribute to Michigan football’s success. He is driven by the desire to help the team secure its first national title since 1997, something that the Wolverines appear poised to do.
“I want to improve everywhere,” Clemons said. “In no way am I content where I’m at right now as far as my skill set. I want to get better at everything, be a better version of myself.”
