It feels like Michigan football is getting more active in the transfer portal. This is likely since they don’t have to focus on player retention.

Players can’t enter the transfer portal anymore, but they can be added from the portal. And Michigan football is looking to make additions at a few key positions.

The Wolverines have already added two wide receivers in the past week. They also landed a veteran kicker, who should be an immediate upgrade.

But there are still needs to address in the secondary, and on the defensive line. Heck, you could make a case for offensive tackle and quarterback too, but those positions are hard to fill in the transfer portal right now.

If Michigan football wanted a quarterback, it needed one in the winter. But it was playing for a national title. However, they can still add to the roster and Jacoby Mathews, a former five-star safety who left Texas A&M is among the current targets.

Mathews had 67 tackles, one interception, and seven pass breakups during his two seasons with A&M. He’s the No. 1 safety in the portal according to On3, but Michigan football will have to beat out a long list of contenders. Getting a visit is the step next and if that happens, we’ll take the pursuit more seriously. Until then, don’t get your hopes up.

Jay’viar Suggs is another top target in the transfer portal of the Wolverines. He’s played his first two years at Grand Valley State and is a Clarkson, Michigan native.

Michigan is loaded at defensive tackle with Kenneth Grant and Mason Graham. But you can never have enough depth, especially on the defensive line. Suggs would be another huge piece and will visit according to Clayton Sayfie. But there are 40 schools involved so this could be an uphill climb.
