Taylor Upshaw, a four-year letterman who appeared in 37 games in the Maize and Blue from 2019-22, left the program following the most recent season. Now, the former Michigan defensive lineman is back in the portal; he may have some interest in making a return to Ann Arbor via the Michigan football transfer portal class.
Colorado EDGE Taylor Upshaw has re-entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, per @mzenitz.
Former Michigan football defensive lineman re-enters the transfer portal
The Michigan football team is loaded in 2023, though there are still some gaps that the Wolverines need to work out before facing the conference’s best teams like Penn State and Ohio State. One of those small question marks lies on the interior of the defensive line — the starters appear to be set, but some extra depth pieces cannot hurt.
On Wednesday afternoon, former Michigan football defensive lineman Taylor Upshaw re-entered the transfer portal after a short stint with Deion Sanders at Colorado. Sanders is currently losing over 50 players to the portal.
Taylor Upshaw could be a great addition to the Wolverines’ roster
During the most recent Michigan football season — in which the Wolverines went 13-1 and won the Big Ten title for the second season in a row — Taylor Upshaw appeared in all 14 of Michigan’s games. He recorded 12 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, and had the game-sealing interception against the Ohio State Buckeyes in Week 13 of the season.
Upshaw was a member of Michigan’s 2019 recruiting class — he initially committed in late-2017 and went on to see significant playing time during all four of his seasons on Jim Harbaugh’s roster. Now, with Upshaw back in the transfer portal, the Michigan football transfer portal class could be looking to make another move and bring him back home.
