ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Yesterday evening, at Schembechler Hall, we heard from new Michigan football transfer LaDarius Henderson, who is currently starting at tackle for the Wolverines. After a dominant rushing performance against the former No. 1 defense and No. 1 rushing defense in the nation, Henderson was happy about what he saw on tape from himself and his teammates, even backing a bold claim from Jim Harbaugh earlier this week: Michigan IS America’s team.
Michigan football transfer weighs in on a bold claim from Jim Harbaugh
On Monday, Jim Harbaugh had media pundits at ESPN throwing fits with his latest claim. He says that, due to the Wolverines’ ability to face adversity and overcome it, the Maize and Blue have become “America’s team” following their win over Penn State last weekend.
But do his players agree? Well, we can’t speak for anyone but LaDarius Henderson, who explained on Tuesday that the answer is yes — Michigan football is America’s team.
“I do agree (that Michigan football is America’s team),” the Arizona State transfer tackle said yesterday. “Think about this: look at America’s Team in the NFL — the Dallas Cowboys. I am a Cowboys fan. And I feel like there are some similarities. I feel like you guys could probably point those out better than I can, but I feel like there are similarities.”
Is Michigan the Dallas Cowboys of college football?
We’ve been thinking about the similarities, and LaDarius Henderson is right. Now, some might be good, and some might be bad, but here are a few that we have been able to come up with:
- League royalty
- Massive fan bases
- Previously saw great success, though still searching for a full return to prominence
- Struggles in the playoffs
- Largely hated by everyone who isn’t a fan
- Depends on physical and successful play from its offensive line
- Generates tons of revenue/media attention, regardless of record
- Last title was in the 1990s
Michigan football is pushing for win No. 1,000
This weekend, with or without head coach Jim Harbaugh, Michigan football transfer LaDarius Henderson and his Wolverines look to improve to 11-0 on the season heading into the Ohio State game. If successful, Michigan will also pick up its 1,000th all-time win — a record that no program has broken so far.
