Jim Harbaugh is no stranger to using the transfer portal to replenish his rosters and remain competitive on a national scale; in fact, that is exactly what the veteran head coach did with his 2023 roster. Seeing as the portal window is open, it already appears that the Maize and Blue have some top-priority targets, one of which is Western Kentucky standout, Upton Stout. Stout, a redshirt sophomore for WKU right now, has become a top Michigan football transfer target — he has a player comp to Mike Sainristil and will reportedly be in Ann Arbor for a visit with the Wolverines on Sunday.
A top Michigan football transfer target is about to visit Ann Arbor
Per reports from Steve Lorenz of 247 Sports, Michigan football will be hosting one of the school’s top transfer portal targets on Sunday: Upton Stout, a defensive back out of Western Kentucky. Seeing as Michigan’s star defensive back Mike Sainrisitl, a former wide receiver and current team captain, is in his fifth season, Stout could be the perfect replacement for Michigan in 2024.
Upton Stout was a three-star out of high school, yet has become a multi-time All-Conference USA selection since beginning his playing career as a redshirt freshman in 2022. After finishing 7-5 this fall, Stout decided that it was time for a change and officially entered his name into the transfer portal. Almost immediately, Michigan offered him and has become a top contender ever since.
Throughout his WKU career, Stout recorded three touchdowns, five interceptions, 73 tackles, two tackles for loss, and more in just 21 games in C-USA. Michigan football could use some help defensively from the transfer portal, and it appears that Stout could be the perfect fit come January. Of course, visits aren’t the end-all-be-all, but this weekend will be a great chance for Jim Harbaugh and his coaching staff to really make a major impression.
