Right now, Michigan football has a trio of offensive star players who lead the nation in a few major areas. Roman Wilson, JJ McCarthy, and Blake Corum are three of the top players in the sport right now, and all it takes to prove it is a quick glance at the 2023 stat sheet.

Michigan football trio leads the nation in major stats

JJ McCarthy, Blake Corum, and Roman Wilson are the fuel that the Michigan football offense runs on right now. Here are the key stats that this trio leads in.

JJ McCarthy — QBR

After crushing Nebraska last weekend, JJ McCarthy was taken out of the game early in favor of backups like Jack Tuttle, Jayden Denegal, and others. So far, through five games of the season, McCarthy has yet to see any action in the fourth quarter. Still, his QBR (quarterback rating) of 94.2 is the best in the country to this point — he also has nearly 1,100 passing yards, 10 touchdowns, and three interceptions.

Blake Corum — rushing touchdowns

In addition to McCarthy’s success, Michigan football running back Blake Corum has been quite impressive through five games. So far, while rushing yards have not been as high as we are used to seeing, Blake Corum has had no trouble getting into the end zone.

The senior ball carrier has nine rushing touchdowns right now, which is tied for first in the nation.

Roman Wilson — Receiving touchdowns

JJ McCarthy has thrown 10 touchdowns this year, with all but two of them being hauled in by senior wideout Roman Wilson. Wilson — who has been impressive since Week 1 — made an insane catch against Nebraska over the weekend, hauling in another two touchdowns and bringing his season stats up to eight TDs thus far. That number ties him for first in the nation when it comes to receiving touchdowns.
