Michigan football: Two-time All-Big Ten senior to enter transfer portal

It’s college football transfer portal season again, and while the Wolverines have been hard at work getting talent from others schools, Michigan is losing another player to the portal this spring. On Monday afternoon, Michigan wideout AJ Henning announced that he will be leaving the program.

Over the past three years Michigan wide receiver AJ Henning has been a special teams contributor and depth piece on the Michigan football offense. Henning was in the winged helmet throughout the low points — such as the COVID-19 season in 2020 — and the high points, such as Michigan’s back-to-back Big Ten titles and more.

As a high school recruit, Henning was a 247 Sports Composite four-star and committed to the Wolverines in mid-2019 as a member of Michigan’s 2020 recruiting class. Since arriving in Ann Arbor, AJ Henning saw a number of important roles with Michigan football. As a player, Henning saw action in 33 games and totaled four touchdowns as a runner, receiver, and kick return specialist. As a return man, Henning was named an All-Big Ten specialist twice, and was the team’s special teams player of the year in 2022. He was also a profound student, earning Academic All-Big Ten honors twice (2021, 2022).
