It has been a busy day for the University of Michigan in the transfer portal, though perhaps not in the best way for the Wolverines. Earlier this afternoon, Michigan football wideout AJ Henning — a two-time All-Big Ten specialist — entered the transfer portal. Now, following Henning’s announcement, former starting veteran safety RJ Moten has done the same.

While Michigan’s defensive backfield is still looking strong, the loss of Moten is not one that many Michigan football fans are glad to hear about.

According to the 247 Sports Composite rankings, veteran safety RJ Moten was a four-star safety recruit in the class of 2020 and was ranked as the No. 256 recruit nationally, the No. 26 safety in the class, and the No. 7 recruit in the state of New Jersey. Like AJ Henning, Moten committed in mid-2019 and has seen three years of action with the Michigan football program to this point.

During his time in the Maize and Blue, Moten appeared in 29 career games making 15 starts and seeing action in all 14 of the Wolverines’ contests a season ago. Moten was a two-time Academic All-Big Ten standout and a solid contributor on the Wolverines’ back-to-back Big Ten title-winning defenses in 2021 and 2022. Now, the New Jersey native will take his talents elsewhere.
