ANN ARBOR, Mich. — After a record-breaking 13-1 season in 2022, the Wolverines added to the excitement surrounding the 2023 team by signing one of the top-ranked transfer portal classes in the country. Among the incredible transfer class was former Nebraska standout (and one of the top-ranked players in the portal) Ernest Hausmann, who is heading into his first season with the Michigan Wolverines. After Michigan’s spring game last weekend, a Michigan football veteran linebacker had the chance to comment on the Wolverines’ depth and the addition of Ernest Hausmann.

Wolverines add Ernest Hausmann, maintain crucial depth ahead of 2023

Right now, one of Michigan’s top linebackers — Junior Colson — is out due to injury. According to the Wolverines’ defensive coordinator, Jesse Minter, Colson is expected to make a return to the lineup by the season opener in the fall; still, Michigan having depth at linebacker is going to be crucial this year due to the position’s uncertainty.

Nikhai Hill-Green, a Michigan football veteran linebacker, claims that the Wolverines are in great shape regarding the depth of the linebacker room in Ann Arbor.

“It’s great; it’ll only make me better,” Hill-Green said after the 2023 Michigan football spring game. “You know, like I always tell the linebackers, if you get better, I get better. So, I feel like with depth, that will only help us stay fresh, it’ll help me make more plays, it’ll help the young guys have playing experience and help them make more plays. I just think it’s awesome.”

Ernest Hausmann is fitting in well in the Maize and Blue so far

Ernest Hausmann, one of the most-hyped offseason additions that Michigan football has landed in quite some time, is getting a lot of praise during spring football thus far. According to Nikhai Hill-Green, the recognition from the fans and media is warranted.

“Ernest, he’s fast, he’s rangy, I like his length,” the Michigan football veteran linebacker said when asked about his impression of Ernest Hausmann thus far. “What I’ve been trying to help him out most with is just like shed blocks because we’re in a defense where we need finesse linebackers, but we need linebackers who can, like I said, win that one-on-one, shed the blocker, and make the tackle. Me and him, we’ve been one-on-one working on that together. But I like him; he’s a worker, he’s a sponge, he absorbs information well, and I’m just excited to see how good he can be, how good I can be, and how good our entire room can be.”

Get used to the name Ernest Hausmann, because this fall, him and the Michigan football defense are coming for championships and more.
