What a whirlwind of a day it has been for the Wolverine football program! For the third time today, Michigan football has had a veteran player enter the transfer portal. Earlier today, wide receiver and elite punt returner AJ Henning and former starter RJ Moten entered. Now, veteran linebacker Nikhai Hill-Green has announced his decision to transfer from the program.

Veteran linebacker Nikhai Hill-Green will transfer from Michigan football

While it’s never ideal to lose a player to the transfer portal, linebacker was probably a position Michigan football could afford to lose a player in, thanks in large part to depth. Still, Hill-Green was a veteran in the locker room and had high hopes for this season coming off an injury. He missed the entire 2022 season due to injury but was an essential piece of the Big Ten Championship-winning team in 2021.

Throughout his career, Hill-Green started for the Maize and Blue six times and recorded 50 tackles between 2020 and 2021. He was on track for a breakout year in 2022 before an injury derailed his season.

The former three-star prospect out of high school had a very successful career with Michigan football. He was a two-time Academic All-Big Ten Honoree (2021, 2022) and provided plenty of leadership through his three years with the program. Now, Hill-Green will take his talents elsewhere and is certainly looking for a strong comeback year with whichever school he ultimately chooses.
