Many new stars are emerging for the Wolverines during the fall camp, whether that’s in position battles or taking on a depth role. One such breakout candidate is junior linebacker Jaydon Hood, who has been garnering a lot of praise from the likes of Jim Harbaugh, Mike Barrett, and more. Yesterday, the media spoke with Michigan football veteran Junior Colson at Schembechler Hall, where Colson further added to the hype surrounding Hood ahead of the upcoming 2023 season.
Michigan football may see a breakout year from Jaydon Hood
Junior Colson is a Michigan football veteran and perhaps the best linebacker in the entire Big Ten. Right now, the Wolverines’ linebacker room is looking elite, with stars like Colson, Ernest Hausmann, and Mike Barrett all competing at the highest level. That said, another face is making a name for himself this fall — junior linebacker Jaydon Hood.
Jaydon Hood was a three-star linebacker from Florida in the class of 2021 when he first committed to Michigan football. So far, Hood has only seen action in four games during his tenure with the Wolverines. Still, all fall camp reports suggest that the 2023 season could be a breakout year for the rising junior linebacker, and his name was once again brought up yesterday.

So, what did Junior Colson say about Jaydon Hood yesterday?
“He’s focused on the moment, on the now,” Junior Colson said on Wednesday at Schembechler Hall. “You can tell he stays here, especially during camp, he’s been one of the last ones to leave watching film trying to get better, and he’s asking more questions than he normally is.
“So I think that’s one thing he’s matured in. Maturity-wise, he’s allowed his game to take that next step to reach that next level. And I think he’s gonna keep going up and up.”
With some injury issues last year, the Michigan football linebacker room has increased its depth and will be looking to rotate guys around more and avoid these issues from happening again. According to Junior Colson, this newfound depth — which includes Jaydon Hood and more — is “huge” for the LB corps.
“Huge, huge. I think you know, we’ve got a lot of really great linebackers,” Colson said. “I can take reps off each other and just learn off each other. Being able to get us through every single game we have to play this year. So I think that’s gonna be really good for us as a team but also as a core because of the way we mesh and the way we play together.”
