After a run of commitments in June and July, Michigan football stayed hot as they picked up another big-time pledge on the trail with the announcement of Texas four-star Jayden Sanders’ decision to play football for the Maize and Blue over Oklahoma State and Baylor.
The 6-2, 172-pound Sanders held scholarship offers from Arizona State, Baylor, Kansas, Kansas State, Michigan State, Northwestern, Oklahoma State, SMU, and TCU, among others.
He is a three-sport athlete, competing in basketball and track & field in addition to football, and it shows on the field.
More Details on Jayden Sanders
Sanders, whose father was All-Big 12 for TCU in the late 2000s, is ranked as the 214th overall player and 24th-best cornerback in the class of 2025, according to 247Sports.
With Sanders’ commitment, Michigan has a three-man secondary class, including the 41st and 43rd-ranked players in Ivan Taylor & Kainoa Winston.
As a junior, Sanders was a star in all three phases, notching three interceptions, catching nine touchdown passes, and returning two kickoffs for a score in 2023.
His ability to highpoint the football on both sides of the ball is apparent and he’s extremely dangerous when he has the football in his hands.
He’s a long, rangy corner with a similar build to 2024 signee and current freshman cornerback Joziah Edmond.
He will need some seasoning and time with Michigan’s elite strength and conditioning coaches, but he has all the makings to be an All-Big Ten player by the time he leaves Ann Arbor.
Jayden Sanders Highlights
Lamar Morgan Is Killing It on the Recruiting Trail
First -year defensive backs coach Lamar Morgan – who joined the staff in February following an exodus of NFL departures – has already ascended as one of the ace recruiters on Sherrone Moore’s first staff.
In just six months on the job, Morgan, who is credited with the recruitments of Sanders, Taylor, and Winston, is ranked sixth overall on the Big Ten football recruiter list on 247Sports.
After spending the last two seasons as defensive coordinator for Louisiana, Morgan appears to be a rising star in the coaching profession and is already one of the best closers on the Michigan football recruiting trail.
Who Will Be the Next Michigan Commit?
With Sanders’ commitment, Michigan jumps Penn State and sits at 14th in the 247Sports 2025 team rankings.
The Wolverines are not done yet, though.
Blue-chip wide receiver Andrew Marsh is projected to commit to U-M on August 20th. Another four-star from the Lonestar State, Marsh is ranked as the 10th-best receiver and 66th overall player in the class.
Michigan currently sits at 100% on the Crystal Ball, battling with Colorado, USC, Texas, and Washington.
In addition to Marsh, the mostly new Wolverines staff, alongside Auburn and Stanford, is right in the thick of things for Kansas five-star offensive tackle Andrew Babalola.
The elite offensive lineman has been rumored to be shutting his recruitment down for some time, though no official commitment date has been set.
Regardless, the trail is red-hot for the Maize and Blue.
