ANN ARBOR, MI — The 2022-23 college basketball season was by no means kind to the Michigan Wolverines. Under fourth-year head coach Juwan Howard, Michigan basketball stumbled for the second year in a row after winning an outright Big Ten title in 2020-21 — this time, Michigan found themselves on the wrong end of a home loss to Central Michigan and an eventual NIT exit to Vanderbilt. Despite Michigan’s setbacks, the program is still in good shape when it comes to recruiting, and is currently trending for one of the top four-star transfer portal recruits.

BJ Mack is undeniably one of the best transfer portal recruits in the nation right now. Right now, Mack is searching for his third school since 2019 — he initially enrolled at the University of South Florida before transferring to Wofford, and finally, wherever he ends up in 2023-24.

On Tuesday, Mack announced his top 10 remaining schools — on his list are six SEC programs — and included Juwan Howard’s Michigan basketball program as one of his top choices. Throughout the 2022-23 season, BJ Mack shot 49.2% from the floor, averaging 16.6 points per game, 5.6 rebounds per game, and 1.4 assists per game. Additionally, he helped lead Wofford hoops to a 17-16 season.

BJ Mack is listed at 6-foot-8 and weighs in at 245-pounds — despite his great size, he shoots over 44% from 3-point-land and is a player that can come in and immediately find himself a primary role. For Michigan basketball — who struggled offensively throughout the season — landing Mack would be a massive pickup for the program heading into a must-win season for Juwan Howard and Co.
