ANN ARBOR — It has almost been a week since Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh and his Wolverines beat Washington 34-13 in the National Championship Game, concluding the team’s perfect 15-0 season with a title for the first time since the 1997 season. Today, during Michigan’s celebration in Ann Arbor, U-M Athletic Director Warde Manuel confirmed that a new contract extension for Harbaugh is in the works and on the way.

Can Michigan football keep Jim Harbaugh from bolting to the NFL? Well, that remains to be seen, but it’s clear that the Wolverines would love nothing more than for Harbaugh to stick around after his National Championship win. In fact, Athletic Director Warde Manuel confirms that he is still working on a contract extension heading into the 2024 offseason.

“I will answer the question that I heard about 500 times on the parade route,” Warde Manuel said at the Crisler Center today. “I am working on getting this man (Coach Jim Harbaugh) a new contract!”

Michigan wants nothing more than to keep Jim Harbaugh in Ann Arbor following National Championship victory

No one is quite sure where Jim Harbaugh will end up next fall, but his 40-3 overall record with three Big Ten titles, CFP berths, and a National Championship is enough to earn him as much money as he wants in a new contract from the University of Michigan football program.

From here, the general belief is that the ball is now in Warde Manuel’s corner when it comes to getting Harbaugh to stick around with the Wolverines. That said, insiders are saying that Harbaugh would like to stay, so there is reason for hope now that the offseason is here.
