A new Michigan football transfer is garnering lots of hype within the Wolverine clubhouse. True sophomore linebacker Ernest Hausmann transferred from Nebraska to Michigan this offseason and Wolverine defenders are stoked to have him on board.

Michigan football transfer shines in freshman year with Nebraska

After playing football at Columbus High School in Nebraska, Hausmann received offers from various Big Ten schools, including Michigan. Hausmann decided to stay in state for his freshman year and committed to the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

In his true freshman season, Hausmann showed the football world what he was capable of. Hausmann saw action in all 12 games last year and started seven of them. He finished the season with 54 total tackles.

In last year’s matchup against Michigan, Hausmann recorded 10 tackles and took down J.J. McCarthy for his first career sack. After his successful freshman season, Hausmann entered the transfer portal and joined Michigan football.

The Wolverine defense is hyped to have Ernest Hausmann on board

Michigan football is returning some of the best defenders in the nation. Here’s what Michigan’s other linebackers had to say about Hausmann joining the Wolverines.

“He’s an awesome guy, He’s a great kid. He’s learning, he’s growing,” said linebacker Junior Colson according to a report earlier this year. Colson added, “He’ll be a really good football player.”

With Nikhai Hill-Green transferring to Charlotte, Hausmann could see considerable playing time among the other Michigan linebackers.

Michigan linebacker Michael Barrett also had high praise for Hausmann. “His natural athletic ability. He’s smart, fast, can move,” he said. “How fast he’s learning the defense, coming along with our guys, blending in, meshing together well with everyone. He’s gonna be a great player. I like his enthusiasm, the way he flies around at practice. He always has a smile on his face. He’s going to bring something to this team.”

Hausmann saw his first action in Maize and Blue at the annual Michigan spring game. Look for Hausmann to be a breakout player on the Wolverine defense for the 2023 football season.
