Over the past three seasons, the Wolverines have seen one of the best big men in the nation go to work in the paint. Following the 2022-23 Michigan basketball season — which was a total mess from the start — Hunter Dickinson hit the transfer portal. Now, the Hunter Dickinson transfer portal news is going wild, with new reports stating that he is quite interested in heading to Kentucky.

Hunter Dickinson transfer portal report: Kentucky the next stop?

According to new Monday reports surrounding the Hunter Dickinson transfer portal search, it sounds like there could be a great deal of mutual interest between the former Michigan basketball star and the SEC’s Kentucky Wildcats. A season ago, Kentucky finished 22-12, ranked 3rd in the SEC, and saw a second-round NCAA tournament exit against Kansas State — much better than Michigan’s 18-15 NIT season. Going to Kentucky could give Dickinson a chance to win a national title (maybe) as well as perform in one of the best basketball conferences in the nation.

A lot of this deal sounds like it hinges on Kentucky’s roster movement. Right now, Kentucky big man Oscar Tshiebwe — a former four-star PA recruit — is decided whether or not he wants to go pro. If he comes back to Kentucky next season, the Wildcats’ frontcourt might become too crowded for Dickinson’s taste as he heads into his fourth year of college basketball next winter.

Portal movement for Dickinson is uncertain for the time being

According to Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio, the former three-time All-Big Ten Michigan basketball standout claims that he would ‘love’ to play for Kentucky, though he does not want to join Oscar Tshiebwe in Lexington, which may end up repelling him if Tshiebwe does decide to come back.

Some of the other schools floating around when it comes to Dickinson’s recruitment are the Maryland Terrapins, Kansas Jayhawks, and more. A season ago, Hunter Dickinson averaged 18.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.8 blocks per game, and shot 56% from the field as a junior with Juwan Howard’s Wolverines. It is a massive loss for Michigan, and he will become a huge gain for whatever school eventually lands him.
