On Thursday, Michigan’s senior wide receiver spoke to the media about his overturned touchdown catch in the Fiesta Bowl back in December. It was the first time since immediately after the game that Roman Wilson was able to speak about the game — his attitude towards that catch over the last few months has changed drastically.

Roman Wilson speaks on overturned touchdown against TCU

Michigan veteran wide receiver Roman Wilson finally addressed a play that has been running through the minds of Michigan football fans for months. The “what ifs” surrounding that play are incredible — the Wolverines fumbled on the following play, giving TCU the ball back, and eventually leading to a 6-point loss. All said and done, Michigan fell just short against the Horned Frogs in a thrilling 51-45 loss — TCU was boat raced by the Georgia Bulldogs in the national title game, 65-7.

Immediately after the game, Roman Wilson said that the call was “Bullsh*t,” however, his feeling towards it have since changed to a less emotional stance.

What did Wilson have to say?

Here is what Roman Wilson told the media on Thursday:

“I’m not really frustrated over it, if I’m going to be honest,” Wilson said of the overturned touchdown. “It is what it is, and it just happens. You just move on from it. I wish it was a touchdown, but it is what it is.”

This is a healthy attitude for one of the Wolverines’ leaders to have towards this overturned touchdown; however, for the players, fans, and program, that loss will sting forever. Now, the time has come for Michigan football to do exactly what Wilson has done: put the TCU loss behind them and focus on bringing home a national title in 2023.
