Michigan football got some unfortunate news on the recruiting trail on Saturday from elite offensive tackle recruit David Sanders Jr.

Michigan football has been putting together a pipeline at Providence Day High School in Charlotte and there was some hope that David Sanders, the No. 1 offensive tackle in the 2025 recruiting class would be the next one to join the Wolverines.

Top-100 quarterback signee Jadyn Davis from the 2024 class was from Providence Day. So was three-star wide receiver signee Channing Goodwin.

Yet, Sanders is a different animal. He’s ranked as the No. 1 tackle in the 2025 class, as well as the No. 2 overall prospect according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.

The 6-foot-6, 270-pound tackle released his top six on Saturday and despite a renewed push by the Wolverines this spring, Michigan football didn’t make the cut.

According to a tweet from Hayes Fawcett, Sanders is down to Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Alabama.

Sanders was supposed to visit Michigan football this spring and visited the Wolverines in the past. With former offensive line coach Sherrone Moore taking over as the head coach, it felt like U-M had a fighting chance, but now they are out of it.

Other programs have been excluded from cut lists like this and still rallied to win a commitment, but it doesn’t happen often. So it’s a blow but there are still plenty of attractive tackles on the board, just none as highly touted as Sanders.
