So far during the 2022-23 Michigan wrestling season, the Wolverines have done quite well. Through nine dual meets thus far, Michigan boasts an 8-1 overall record and a 3-1 record in the Big Ten.

Over the weekend, the Wolverines suffered their first loss of the season; a 30-8 blowout at the hands of No. 1 Penn State. On Sunday, Michigan wrestling bounced back with a blowout of their own; this time, the Wolverines cruised past No. 24 Rutgers, 24-9.

Now, Michigan heads into its 10th dual meet of the season against the 7th-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes (9-1 overall, 3-0 Big Ten)

Ohio State riding high coming into Ann Arbor

As the Buckeyes enter their meet with Michigan, they are riding a four-meet winning streak that extends back to their 23-12 victory over No. 19 Lehigh. No. 7 Ohio State also boasts impressive victories over No. 8 Virginia Tech (18-13), No. 20 Michigan State, No. 21 Indiana (26-13), and No. 24 Rutgers (27-12).

Most recently, the Buckeyes knocked off unranked Maryland, 38-6 last Friday night. Now, Ohio State will try its luck in Ann Arbor against the 3rd-ranked Michigan Wolverines.

Michigan responds to adversity after Penn State loss

The only way to describe Michigan’s 22-point loss at Penn State last Friday would be “ugly.” After taking the first match, the Wolverines were dominated by the nation’s No. 1 team; this is nothing unexpected considering the competition, but it was still a tough loss.

Penn State has won nine of the past 11 National Championships and is yet to have a close dual meet so far this season. Additionally, the meet was held at the Bryce-Jordan Center in front of 16,000 Penn State wrestling fans.

After Michigan wrestling took home a 30-8 loss at Penn State, the Wolverines managed to bounce back in dominant fashion over a ranked opponent. Michigan made the trip to New Jersey on Sunday, where they faced off against No. 24 Rutgers.

The Wolverines walked off with a head-turning 24-9 win over the Scarlet Knights — a much needed victory before hosting Ohio State next friday.
