Ohio State whiffs on replacement for RB coach who left for Michigan football

When Michigan football hired away Tony Alford from Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes, I said it was fun to see Ryan Day with egg on his face.

Well, Michigan football fans, we get to enjoy it again on Wednesday, as we have so many other times over the past three years, as crying Ryan and the Buckeyes whiffed on hiring DeMarco Murray as their running backs coach according to Pete Nakos of On3.com.

Another setback for Michigan football rival

I’ll admit, if Day and Ohio State were able to steal Murray away from Oklahoma, it would have been a good move. He was on my short list of candidates to replace Mike Hart when he departed from the Wolverines coaching staff.

Murray, of course, is an Oklahoma great. He also had a stellar NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys and has done an outstanding job as the Sooners’ running backs coach. I would have been stoked if Sherrone Moore landed his former teammate as Michigan football running back coach.

That would have made it sting a little if Murray went to the Buckeyes. Instead, he turned the interest from Ohio State into a three-year contract extension with Oklahoma.

The Buckeyes will find a good coach. Let’s not kid ourselves, but it’s still fun to chuckle at their failures, in part because their social media warriors believe they are perfect in everything they do.

There was a rumor about Mike Hart interviewing for the job. That would bum me out but I’ll believe it when I see it. What we don’t need to speculate on is the fact that Day whiffed on Murray, just like he whiffed on keeping Tony Alford, a coach hired by Urban Meyer, from leaving for Michigan football.
