As many Wolverines fans will remember quite well, the Maize and Blue landed a major recruiting target a few years back — elite wide receiver Xavier Worthy. That said, before enrolling in Ann Arbor, Worthy opted to de-commit from Jim Harbaugh’s program and committed to the Texas Longhorns, where he is currently a top wideout. Recently, new reports via Max Olson of The Athletic show Worthy’s mother stating that it came down to a “trust” issue and admissions policies. Here is more on the ex-Michigan football commit turned Big 12 star.

Mother of ex-Michigan football commit explains why he chose Texas football instead

Recently, the mother of Xavier Worthy explained why the star wide receiver decided to de-commit and play for Texas football instead of Michigan football. For the Wolverines, this was a huge blow to the offense, especially seeing as Worthy is now one of the top wideouts in college football.

According to his mother, Xavier Worthy was set to enroll early at the Universty of Michigan, yet admissions issues caused that plan to fall through. In turn, a trust issue between the two parties formed — these things combined caused him to de-commit.

“For me, that didn’t fly,” Xavier Worthy’s mother told The Athletic. “I turned in all of his academic paperwork and applications in September. As far as I had been told, up until two weeks before, he was on track to enroll early. There was nothing missing, nothing short, they’d waived the SATs. It didn’t make sense. Something wasn’t right. What’s the problem, and why am I finding out about this now?

“Michigan messed that up,” his mother continued. “The trust wasn’t there. For us, trust is so big in everything. We just never felt like we were getting the truth about what happened. It was just a lot of, ‘We’re sorry’ (from Michigan).”

More on Xavier Worthy

According to the 247 Sports composite recruiting rankings, Xaiver Worthy was a top 100 player in the class of 2021. He was rated as a four-star wide receiver, and ranked as the No. 100 recruit nationally, the No. 13 wide receiver in his class, and the No. 8 player in the state of California. Despite signing with the Wolverines, he requested a release (which was granted), and flipped to Texas football ahead of the 2021 season — he has been a star ever since.

Since joining the Texas Longhorns, Xavier Worthy has totaled over 1,83 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns during his 25 games (and counting) in Big 12 country (which is soon to be SEC country).
