Sherrone Moore has been the Michigan football head coach for little more than a month, but so far, so good. Moore has done a stellar job of keeping a talented roster together, as well as building a coaching staff.
Even another hit — losing Mike Hart as the running backs coach — turned into a success for Michigan football as Moore stole Tony Alford away from Ohio State.
Ohio State fans can talk bad about Alford all they want. It doesn’t change the fact that the Buckeyes tried to keep Alford before he ultimately made the move to Michigan football. He’s had a ton of recruiting wins over the years and is a proven commodity as a running backs coach.
I’d rather have Mike Hart, but Alford is probably the next best thing. Michigan football isn’t done adding staff members either.
Sherrone Moore isn’t done
Lionel Stokes, a quality control analyst from Louisiana is the next addition according to a report from Matt Zentiz of 247 Sports. Stokes has ties to Lamar Morgan, the secondary coach. He’s also been a defensive coordinator previously at Jackson State.
Another name has emerged for the Wolverines. Former NFL defensive lineman Pernell McPhee. He played with the Ravens from 2011-2021. He’s very familiar with the defensive scheme the Wolverines will be running and had an impressive NFL career playing in 141 games with 260 tackles and 38 sacks.
McPhee doesn’t have any coaching experience but is thought to be someone who will rise quickly through the ranks. It should be noted that Michigan football is only interested (via 247 sports) — nothing is official — but it makes sense for both sides. McPhee can get a foot in the door. He can also be an asset for the Wolverines assisting the on-field staff and recruiting.
