The Michigan Wolverines needed an upgrade at quarterback after last season, and 2025 No. 1 recruit Bryce Underwood could completely change the program. Michigan also brought in Fresno State transfer Mikey Keene, and Davis Warren is returning for his fifth year.
Additionally, Jadyn Davis is coming back for his sophomore year, and the Wolverines also signed 2025 three-star recruit Chase Herbstreit. Underwood and Keene are most likely at the top of the pack.
Sherrone Moore shares early thoughts on Michigan quarterbacks
As an early-enrollee, Underwood has been with the program since it was preparing for the ReliaQuest Bowl in December. Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore said getting on campus early helps players with more than the game.
“Yeah I mean, I think just early-enrollees in general, it’s a great thing for the game and for those players,” Moore said at a press conference Monday. “To be able to come in, and not only just for football, (but) for school. Be able to handle school, be able to maneuver in school and know where your classes are.
“But for (Underwood) and all the quarterbacks, it’s been good. Adjusting to things and doing things a little bit different, but he’s done well. He works his tail off, he’s in here late and here early, and those guys are really working hard to compete at that position.”
For the most part, a young player gets their confidence from repetitions in practice. The Wolverines could have a lack of experience at a few positions in 2025, most notably at quarterback, and that could be part of the reason Michigan is one school opting to keep its spring game (April 19).
Moore said the quarterbacks are getting the same amount of reps in practice.
“I mean they’re all practicing, they’re all going, so everybody gets reps with the ones, everybody gets reps with the twos, everybody gets reps with the threes,” Moore said. “Basically all the reps are pretty balanced, so we’ll figure out who the starter is when we feel like we’ve gotten to that point.”
