Over the past few seasons, Michigan football wide receiver Roman Wilson has shown flashes of greatness but has yet to truly have a breakout year. A lot of that can be attributed to his injury issues, which were reoccurring towards the beginning/middle of the season, and forced other guys into the spotlight more so than Wilson. Right now, the senior pass-catcher leads the nation in touchdown catches (6), and with Big Ten play starting tomorrow, the Wolverines need to make sure he can stay healthy. Earlier this week, WR coach Ron Bellamy gave more on the star wideout.
Michigan football wide receiver Roman Wilson needs to stay healthy
So far this fall, half of the passes thrown to Roman Wilson have resulted in a touchdown — he’s caught 12 passes for 209 yards and six touchdowns, becoming JJ McCarthy‘s top target along the way. That said, more than anything, the Wolverines just need to keep this star Michigan football wide receiver healthy, especially now that Big Ten play is starting.
“You see the production,” Ron Bellamy said this week. “Having Roman out there (and healthy) gives us a different look on our offense — a guy that can intermediate game or obviously can stretch a defense. You guys know, he’s an explosive receiver. He’s shown that throughout his career, and I’m proud of him. Just keep stacking the days for Roman.”
Ron Bellamy is thrilled with Wilson so far
Bellamy, being the wide receivers coach, is thrilled with how Roman Wilson is producing for the Michigan football offense. As the saying goes, you play how you practice, which seems to be the case with Wilson so far.
“The great thing about Roman and the rest of the guys, not just the receiver position, but our team in general, when you practice like that, it shows up on Saturdays. For Roman, that’s been it — he’s been having great weeks of practice, and he’s stacking up days, so gotta keep it rolling.”
Michigan football ready to take on Rutgers
This weekend, Roman Wilson and Michigan football take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in a Week 4 conference matchup — the Wolverines’ first Big Ten game since last year’s 45-23 win over Ohio State. If Wilson can remain healthy this year, he could become one of the top wideouts in the game ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft.
