Jim Harbaugh’s 2023 signing class was not the best that many fans have seen — it hardly ranked among the top 20 classes nationally — yet it is full of potential star players. One such star is top Michigan football freshman running back, Cole Cabana, who will likely miss part of the coming season, though it is expected that he will eventually grow into the next great Maize and Blue ball carrier. Since signing, Cabana has seen tremendous physical growth.

Top Michigan football freshman, Cole Cabana, adds serious weight

Cole Cabana is the top Michigan football freshman this fall, based on the 247 Sports rankings. As Michigan’s No. 1 commit in the previous cycle, Cabana has always carried high expectations — he was also a star in-state player, making him a well-known presence even before arriving in Ann Arbor. According to 247 Sports, Cabana was a four-star running back in the class of 2023, ranking as the No. 21 RB prospect nationally and the No. 3 player in the state of Michigan.

When he first signed with Michigan football, Cabana measured at 6-foot, 180 pounds — not too bad for a first-year Wolverine tailback. However, according to Michigan’s updated roster, Cole Cabana has added some serious size, now weighing in at 198 pounds heading into fall camp.

This is fantastic news for Michigan football fans — even though Cabana will likely miss some of the coming season, he is still going to receive as many carries as possible, which will be crucial for his development throughout the coming years. Right now, Michigan’s RB room is stacked with names like Donovan Edwards and Blake Corum, so Cabana can afford to sit and learn for now.

That said, he is already around the ideal size for a college running back, meaning the Wolverines can now focus on developing him without worrying about his physical growth. Moreover, it shows that Cole Cabana can be a workhorse, adding nearly 20 pounds ahead of his first season in the Maize and Blue.
