In 2021, everything changed for the Wolverines, who stormed through the Big Ten en route to a 12-2 season and a conference title. In 2022, the Maize and Blue did much of the same, going 13-1 with a second-straight Big Ten title and a College Football Playoff appearance. In 2023, the Michigan football RB room is in great shape, meaning huge things could be on the horizon for the Wolverines for the third year in a row.

Michigan football RB room looking better than ever in 2023

The Michigan football RB room has been essential to the program’s success over the past few seasons. In 2021, Hassan Haskins and Blake Corum led the way to huge wins throughout the year, including a 42-27 victory over Ohio State and a 42-3 win over Iowa in the Big Ten title game.

The following season, Michigan football once again ran through their competition for another incredible season, concluding with a 13-1 finish, a Big Ten title, a College Football Playoff appearance, and another top 3 ranking. Once again, the Michigan football RB room was dominant as Blake Corum, Donovan Edwards, and the other backs rushed their way into the program’s record books.

Mike Hart impressed with his running backs so far this offseason

This fall, if the Wolverines expect to stay on top of the Big Ten and make a push for this year’s national title, the Maize and Blue need to maintain their level of play, perhaps even take it up a notch. With Corum and Edwards returning, as well as a plethora of young talent ready to step up, this year’s Michigan football RB room is ready to lead the way once again. “I think we’re really deep,” Mike Hart said after the spring game in April. “I definitely feel a lot better this time of year than I did last year. We’ve got a lot of depth, you know, guys are competing, as we’re going into fall camp, but definitely feel really good about our running game right now.”

For the first time in quite a while, Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards are both healthy heading into the 2023 season. The Wolverines are ready to push for the sport’s biggest prize, a national title, cementing this team’s place as one of the best in program history. As seen in years past, the Wolverines’ offense is often only as good as their running back room. If that remains true in 2023, this year’s team is in great shape.
