Urban Meyer went 7-0 against Michigan football and 4-0 against Jim Harbaugh during his time as the head coach of Ohio State, including a national title-winning season in 2014-15. While Meyer still refuses to say the word “Michigan” to his day, every now and then, he has something positive to say regarding the Maize and Blue. Most recently, Meyer gave credit to the Wolverines for staying focused despite the allegations of sign-stealing, media attention, investigations, and more.
Urban Meyer gives credit to Michigan football and Jim Harbaugh amid sign-stealing investigation
Urban Meyer is like the last person that Michigan football fans would expect to praise the Wolverines, especially amid the infamous sign-stealing scandal and NCAA investigations. Still, Meyer previously came out and said that he is not rushing to judgment because he is not confident that the scandal has been reported accurately thus far.
Following this strong take, which had social media pretty riled up, Meyer added more praise for Michigan football. Per the ex-Ohio State coach, Jim Harbaugh and his coaching staff deserve credit for keeping their undefeated team focused on the games, not the outside noise.
“I can imagine (the investigation is) very distracting,” Urban Meyer said on his podcast. “I think, if there is a decision made this week, which I keep hearing there will be, that’s going to impact a lot of people. If it’s true, you know, the NCAA and you know, they actually had people on campus, videotaping and using that — the coaches, the offensive coordinator, the defense, using that information — if that comes down, obviously if there’s a decision made, that could disrupt the entire program.
“Up to this point, you’ve got to give them credit because, their staff and the leadership on their team, they’re unfazed. They went into Purdue, and I mean just beat them senseless (Michigan 41, Purdue 13). So they’re doing an excellent job of staying focused right now.”
This weekend, No. 3 Michigan football must stay dialed in as it heads to No. 10 Penn State for arguably the top Big Ten game of the year thus far. Just now, the school responded to the Big Ten’s formal notice of potential punishment, meaning the ball is back in Tony Petitti’s (conference commissioner) court.
