Michigan football ended 2024 as one of the hottest programs in the country. The Wolverines went 3-0 to end the season, including an improbable win over Ohio State and a ReliaQuest Bowl victory over Alabama. Additionally, Michigan has a top five transfer portal class and landed the No. 1 recruit coming out of high school in 2025, Bryce Underwood.

The maize and blue came in at No. 21 in Brad Crawford’s (247Sports) way-too-early top 25 on Monday. Crawford projects Texas as the top team heading into 2025. There are five other Big Ten schools ranked ahead of Michigan: Ohio State (2), Oregon (4), Penn State (7), Indiana (19) and Illinois (20). Crawford also put Nebraska at No. 23.

Aside from a new quarterback, the Michigan offense will also feature a new offensive coordinator in Chip Lindsey. On Tuesday it was reported that defensive coordinator Wink Martindale was participating in interviews with NFL teams. Even if the Wolverines lose their defensive guru, they’re set up for success.
