QB Chase Herbstreit Commits to Michigan
New: Michigan football set to play No. 11 Alabama in ReliaQuest Bowl
As a senior, Herbstreit (St. Xavier High, Cincinnati, OH) totaled over 2,200 yards and 26 touchdowns. Herbstreit is listed at 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds. On3 Rankings Director Charles Power had this to say ($) about the new Wolverine:
“Chase Herbstreit showed continued improvement as a senior while playing top competition at St. Xavier,” Power said. “I thought he showed impressive overall administration of their offense and a good bit of versatility with what he can do from a skillset perspective. He lines up under center and is comfortable in the drop back passing game. He showed some really encouraging movement skills and rushing ability both as a scrambler and on designed runs.”
Michigan was Herbstreit’s only offer, but Power said he just didn’t develop quickly.
“He’s a little bit of a late bloomer, who, based on the improvement he showed, appears to be an FBS talent at quarterback,” Power said. “Michigan getting him in the fold certainly helps their quarterback room and their depth. In addition to what he showed on the field from a skillset perspective, he’s highly competitive. I think he’ll push that room. He’s dialed in when it comes to X’s and O’s.”
Herbstreit joins No. 1 recruit Bryce Underwood as the only quarterback commits in Michigan’s 2025 class. While it may have been a surprise commitment, one shouldn’t be shocked if Herbstreit is on the roster next season. Even if Herbstreit never becomes a starter, it’s another poke at the Buckeyes after they lost to the maize and blue for the fourth year in a row.
