3 bold offseason predictions for Michigan football

The Wolverines have already made plenty of moves, and could make even more in the coming months of the 2023 offseason.

We are approaching the midway point in the 2023 offseason; Michigan football has been making waves on the recruiting trail and with its coaching staff. Here are three bold predictions for the Wolverines as we head into the second half of the offseason.

Someone has to go: Michigan football has too many coaches

Recently, the Michigan football team added another assistant coach to its 2023 staff — Chris Partridge from Ole Miss. Partridge was a massive hire for Jim Harbaugh and his staff, bringing tons of upside.

Partridge was an incredible recruiter during his first trip to Ann Arbor from 2015-2019. He was also a prominent recruiter in the SEC from 2020-2022. He joins the Michigan football coaching staff as a defensive assistant, though it creates a new problem: the Wolverines have too many coaches.

A college football coaching staff can have ten assistant coaches at a given time — Michigan football currently has 12. With the Wolverines over the limit, someone has to go before the season starts. Seeing as Partridge is a defensive guy, we believe that the Wolverines will lose a defensive coach before the season starts.

Wolverines land five-star QB

Michigan football has been making some big moves on the 2024 recruiting trail as of late, though nothing would overshadow the acquisition of Michigan’s top prospect: five-star quarterback Jadyn Davis.

The Wolverines have been pushing hard for Davis over the past few months, and frankly, Davis will make-or-break Michigan’s 2024 class. The Wolverines appear to be in the lead, as all leading recruiting experts have Davis landing in Ann Arbor when the time comes. Still, his recruitment is wide open, and it’s time for Michigan football to seal the deal.

This offseason, we predict that Jadyn Davis finally turns blue, making the Wolverines’ 2024 class elite.

Michigan football assembles top 5 recruiting class heading into the season

We may be in a dead period right now, but Michigan football is still doing well on the recruiting trail. After assembling a class that just about everyone agrees was disappointing in 2023 — one that ranks 3rd in the Big Ten and 18th nationally — Jim Harbaugh and Co. are bouncing back hot in 2024.

After picking up a commitment from four-star in-state athlete Jacob Oden, the Wolverines 2024 class currently ranks in the top 5 (No. 5) classes in the nation. Michigan has seven commits, five of which are four-star prospects.

With Michigan football hot on the trail with many other big names, we believe that the Wolverines will enter the 2023 season with a top 5 class — maintaining that status when everything is all said and done my be a challenge. Still, we are confident in Michigan’s recruiting abilities.
