Michigan football kicked off a big recruiting month with five official visitors on campus this past weekend, which included Derek Meadows, a five-star prospect according to 247 Sports.

According to the 247 Sports composite rankings, Meadows, out of Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas, is ranked 65th overall and ninth among wide receivers at 6-foot-5, 200 pounds.

Meadows visited Michigan football along with top-100 offensive lineman Douglas Utu. There were five prospects total on campus and each of them was ranked as a four-star.

According to Tom Loy of 247 Sports, Michigan football made it a “special” weekend for the talented wide receiver. For his part, Meadows told Loy that the visit was “incredible.”

Where does Michigan football stand with Derek Meadows?

There is usually a positive buzz after official visits. This was one of the first big recruiting weekends under head coach Sherrone Moore and it seems like the Wolverines knocked it out of the park.

EJ Holland of The Wolverine reported that Michigan football “feels good” about where it stands with Meadows, but there is a long way to go. Notre Dame is the crystal ball leader at this point. The Irish are also the favorite according to the On3 prediction machine.

The Fighting Irish have an 84 percent percent chance of landing Meadows. So it’s not going to be easy to win this recruitment but Meadows told Holland he’s expecting to make a decision early in the Fall. That could at least give Moore and the Wolverines more chances to make a move.

This was a positive step for Michigan football. However, one strong official visit isn’t going to be enough to unseat Notre Dame as the favorite, but U-M at least has some momentum to build on.
