Michigan basketball hits home run with Danny Wolf commitment

It’s been a busy weekend for Michigan basketball but it doesn’t seem like Dusty May is ready to slow down anytime soon.

One day after landing two commitments — a transfer and a 2024 recruit — May has reportedly landed another commitment, this time from Yale big man Danny Wolf.

Wolf didn’t announce a commitment. However, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported it, citing sources, so you can pretty much take that to the bank in another major win for the new Michigan basketball head coach.

What Danny Wolf brings to Michigan basketball

Wolf recently took a visit to North Carolina. UConn was also in the mix. But Wolf also visited Michigan basketball last weekend and the Wolverines ended up winning out.

The first question is going to be what does this mean for Vlad Goldin? We don’t have the answer for that but all indications are, that for Michigan basketball at least, this isn’t a one-or-the-other scenario. They both visited at the same time last weekend so it stands to reason that playing together was a topic.

Wolf is a 7-footer but he shot 34.5 percent from 3-point range on his way to averaging 14.1 points and 9.7 rebounds last season. He also averaged 1.3 blocks and one steal per game. Wolf has two years of eligibility and we’ll see about admissions but if a student from Yale can’t get in, Michigan has some issues.

While Rubin Jones is what I could call an underrated commitment — he ranked outside the top 100 — Wolf was one of the biggest names in the transfer portal. He ranked as a top-10 player according to On3.com and this is a huge commitment for Dusty May.

All of a sudden, the roster is coming together and this might not be the last commitment of the weekend, at least not the way things are going.
